INVOKE|EVOKE, performed by Melissa Rayne - a living DanceArt journey of ritual, mantic stains and hyper-presence. II. Diagrams of Love, performed by Melissa Rayne & Rob McNeill (Punchdrunk, ROH) - a DanceArt encounter, rooted in the radical erotic art of Ithell Colquhoun. It examines power and control, desire and domination, and charts the transformative process involved in uniting two polarities to reach Colquhoun's idea of the Divine Androgyne. The work fuses Mixed Martial Arts with contemporary dance theatre and is set to a soundscape of Coil's How To Destroy Angels. III. Undefined, performed by Samantha Dilena and Sarah Hirsch, with contributions by Susan Sentler - an intergenerational DanceArt trio (presented here as a duet) that disrupts and subverts patriarchal expectations of women via the Triple Goddess archetypes. The aim of this event is to raise my profile and make strategic connections for partners, programming, supporters and champions as I build my anti-patriarchal dance platform. I have leveraged my DYCP funding to provide 20 paid R&D, mentoring, performance and co-facilitation opportunities to intergenerational dance artists aged from their early twenties to late seventies - 80% going to women artists. With further financial and organisational support, I'll be able to provide more resourced opportunities to diverse and valid dance artists. About Melissa Melissa Rayne is an Outsider Dance Artist. Neurodivergent, disabled, and with dual-heritage, she originates from the poverty line of the South Wales valleys. Melissa's DanceArt practice has been shaped in response to decades of systemic discrimination, gatekeeping, body shaming and psychological abuse in the mainstream dance industry. It is rooted as much in her eclectic spectrum of phenomenological interests - feminism, the Occult, the art and magical practice of Ithell Colquhoun, mental health and the Human Condition - as it is in the physicalities of Butoh, contemporary/modern dance and Mixed Martial Arts. As a freelance dancer and puppeteer she has performed in the UK and Hungary with, among others, BBC TV/Phoenix Dance Theatre, Budapest Dance Theatre, Elrow London. She has created works for Trinity Laban Dance for Wellbeing/Protein Dance En Route Together, Thamesmead Festival, SzólóDuó Festival and The Playground Rambert.
