What I Know

I know it’s not possible to lift my leg

from my hamstrings, and how difficult disdain

is to swallow.  I know my eyes will lie,

and that knockout power comes from my feet.

I know flat turnout is a lower leg illusion.

I know the best things happen by accident.

I know the language of angels — biblically accurate.

I know that Tarot’s not real.

I’ve disappointed myself and I will

disappoint myself.  It's taken decades.

I know we don’t really know anything at all.

Two Zero One Seven

I know the language of angels (biblically accurate) comes with a cost.

Did I deserve this shitstorm?

I must’ve deserved this shitstorm.

I know fear takes many forms

and that sometimes, the only way to survive

is to detach. Was I asking for it?

I must’ve asked for it.

I know the power of self-delusion, and just

how cruel a man can be. I know that

bad things really do happen to good people,

I’ve learned that bad and good

are metrics we’ve made up to make sense

of nonsense.  I know that nothing

you say to me will ever change my mind.

But I’ll stay alive, just out of spite.
